One of the three corners of the Golden Triangle route of India other than Delhi and Agra, Jaipur exudes charms like no other. The Hawa Mahal, the City Palace, the Jantar Mantar, all are amazingly built and speaks volumes of Jaipur's erstwhile times. Jaipur is a glorious city with spectacle dotting it everywhere. Also visit Amer Fort, about 11 km from the city; a thrilling elephant ride to this fort will make your trip an exhilarating experience. Jodhpur - the pulsating city
Jodhpur is a bustling desert city and the second largest city in Rajasthan after Jaipur. The massive Meherangarh Fort crowning a sheer rocky ridge dominates the city. A 10 km long colossal wall with eight huge gates surround the old walled city. The new city flourished outside the old city. Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a chief of the Rathore clan, Jodhpur is heart for performing arts, craft and its famed miniature paintings. The Shilp Gram festival is a center of attraction during the season. Jodhpur is also popular for its colourful bazaars, ethnic morjari work and camel rides. Also standing in the city is the Umaid Bhawan Palace, the most expensive royal residence in the world. Built by Maharaja Umaid Singh, today the palace is converted into a hotel and a section of it is still inhabited by the royal family. Jodhpur is also eminent for Polo that has been the traditional sport of the nobility since medieval times. Jaisalmer - the glittering city
Jaisalmer - the golden city amidst the golden sand of the Thar Desert on the far west of Rajasthan in India is a mesmeric wonder that emanates amber hue, earned the city its the epithet of the golden city. This medieval city reminds one of the stories of "Arabian Nights". If you are an adventurous minded and camel ride is one activity you are looking forward to undertake, then Jaisalmer could be the best bet for you. Its 12th century Golden Fort - the Jaisalmer Fort - known for its golden tinge that radiates from it in the daytime dominates the city. The striking havelis, which were built by wealthy merchants of Jaisalmer, are nonetheless another remarkable aspect of the desert city. Once you are through with the havelis and fort of Jaisalmer, just head towards the Sand Dunes and let your eyes embrace the sloppy sand dunes while you wander your way in a camel safari. Jaisalmer came into prominence during the medieval times, due to its location on the main trade route linking India to Egypt, Arabia, Persia, Africa and the West. Bhatti Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, after whom the city finds its name, established the city on the Trikut Hills, in 1156. |
