Khajuraho Holidays - a mystical splendour
Khajuraho is exemplary for its temple architecture and bold artistic depiction. A small modest village with no more than 3000 residents surrounded by the forestland, Khajuraho finds a fair number of tourists from all over the world every year. With hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops springing up in large numbers at the entrance that leads one to the two distinctive groups of temples here, the city has become an obvious choice for the tourist who looks for luxury while on trip. Khajuraho is also connected to other parts of the country by air, making the trip for the air passengers more convenient. The temples of Khajuraho are known for their speechless beauty. The construction of the temples is said to have began in the mid 9th century and continued until the early 12th century. Shielded from the outer world by thick forests, the temples were first rediscovered by T S Burt in 19th century, a British engineer. The temples are divided into three main groups - the Western Group of Temples, the Eastern Group of Temples and the Southern Group of temples - all of which have excellent human sculptures detailed all over. Agra - an art supreme
Taj Mahal - a white beauty etched on white marble is a must visit for every single tourist in India. Standing by the River Yamuna in Agra, Taj Mahal is a shimmering marvel that was built by the Vth Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his dear wife and queen Mumtaz Mahal. Built entirely of white makrana marble, the Taj's spectacular architectural beauty is beyond description, especially at dawn and sunset. The Taj Mahal seems to glow in the full moon night and it is best viewed during this period. Fatehpur Sikri - the solitary land
The world heritage site, Fatehpur Sikri is a solitary spectacle that falls on the Jaipur Agra highway. Just 37 kms from Agra, Fatehpur Sikri is predominantly built in red sandstone by the Mughal Emperor Akhbar. Akhbar built this city as his capital, but only after 20 years he was forced to abandon the city due to the scarcity of water. This ghost city was built between 1571 & 1585 and today has a population of about 30,000. Fatehpur Sikri is one of the finest examples of Mughal architectural grandeur at its best. Though in ruins, the city has successfully retained many of the old structures, because of the efforts of the Archaeological Department of India, and today is a place worth visiting while you are in India |
