Delhi - the imperial city

Agra, prominently known as the city of Taj Mahal, is one of the most effervescent cities of India. Standing proudly by one of India's most sacred rivers Yamuna, Agra a city in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is just 204 km from Delhi, the national capital . Though Agra is frequently visited for its white marble beauty, it has more for its tourists than publicized. The city was founded by Sultan Sikandar Lodi in the year 1506 and achieved fame as the capital of the Mughal emperors between 1526 & 1658. Today, Agra remains a major tourist destination in India because of its many magnificent Mughal-era edifices that include - Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Besides these, the other places worth visiting in Agra are Sikandara, Itmad Ud Daulah's Tomb and the bazaars, from where you can buy several interesting curious. Most notable of all the masterpieces is the Taj Mahal, the most classy and luxuriously built mausoleum on earth. Jaipur - the rosy city
A pulsating city in charming pink - Jaipur is a tourists' delight. Be it its historical monuments, lovely parks & gardens, sacred temples, or colourful bazaars, Jaipur always occupies the top position in the list of the tourist visiting India. Just 261 km from Delhi and 235 km from Agra, Jaipur is the third corner of the illustrious Golden Triangle of India, of which Delhi and Agra are two other corners. Jaipur was once a princely state, the imprint of which still continues to exist in its surroundings. The Hawa Mahal, the predominant icon of Jaipur is the most conspicuous structures in the city with more the 900 facades, one of its kinds in the world. Served as window to the royal ladies, this facade enabled them to view the street activities, without themselves being seen by the outsiders. Shaped like a crown of Lord Krishna, the sandstone structure bewilders every single passerby. The City Palace on the other hand has two huge marble elephants on the entrance to receive you. The palace exhibits a museum and an art gallery, both of which have an overwhelming collection of royal clothes, armory and other products of the erstwhile royal families. The Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is an observatory that puts light into the celestial movements. The observatory was setup by the Astronomer King Sawai Man Singh II, who is credited for erecting 4 more observatories around the country. If you are an adventurous soul, then take an elephant ride to the Amer Fort, about 11 km from Jaipur city. You will be carried and brought back by an elaborately decorated elephant at the fort site. An elephant ride to the Amer Fort makes the rider feel like an erstwhile King. To make your trip more colourful, head towards the vibrant bazaars of Jaipur; there you can buy some delightful stuffs as well as indulge in various Rajasthani delicacies. |
